2,000 computers lie idle, as Telangana to buy projectors
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is betting big on e-learning in schools. The government wants schools to employ computers in classes and is even developing digital versions of the state syllabus textbooks.
Government school teachers from Karimnagar have developed an online course module for environmental sciences for Classes IV and V in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation agency, Ricoh and Save the Children.
“The course module was developed by our own teachers,” TS school education commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu said. The state intends to encourage all teachers to use computer-aided tools while teaching.
In all, 2,157 government schools have working computers but which are not being used for any purpose. Few schools have projects in computers. The government is keen on purchasing smart projectors for use in schools. These projectors cost between Rs 75,000 and Rs 1 lakh. It is also partnering with corporates to adopt government schools under the Digital India programme. About 10 schools in each district will be adopted.
