Bajrang Dal man says writer KS Bhagwan next in line
Mangaluru: The Bantwal town police has decided to file a suo motu case against a Bajrang Dal leader for his controversial statement hailing the murder of Kannada researcher Dr M.M. Kalburgi on Sunday and threatening another rationalist.
The message, allegedly posted by Bajrang Dal leader Bhuvith Shetty against Kalburgi on his Twitter account, was making the rounds on social media on Sunday.
“Then it was U.R. Ananthamurthy and now its M.M. Kalburgi. Mock Hinduism and die a dog’s death. And dear K.S. Bhagwan you are next,” the alleged message on his Twitter account is said to have read.
Mr Bhagwan, a rationalist, was in the news for saying, in February this year, that some lines of the Bhagvad Gita should be burned. He volunteered to burn the lines himself, but was stopped by others.
Right wing activists had allegedly burst crackers in Mangaluru after the death of eminent litterateur Ananthamurthy in August last year. He had been critical of Mr Narendra Modi. “A suo motu case will be filed by Bantwal town police against Bhuvith Shetty. We will verify the truth,” S.P. Sharanappa told Deccan Chronicle.
Bhuvith faces two previous cases, police sourcs said.
