Thirst for new expressions
He paints, has dabbled in lithography, etching, printmaking, photography and even new media. But the thirst to experiment with more mediums hasn’t stopped for artist Srinath Vadapalli.
After working as an academician, a designer for a newspaper and a job with the UN, Srinath is now moving to the United States of America to work on his upcoming projects and one of them happens to be at the Museum of Computer Arts. “I’ve travelled across the world and during my travels, I have clicked many photographs. Apart from that, I also paint. So for my upcoming show in November, I will be displaying my new media artworks. They will be a mix of my photographs along with my artworks which will be printed,” says Srinath.
While the photographs are from around the world, Srinath’s artworks are based on his experiences. “I moved to Hyderabad to pursue a course in visual arts in 1991, when I heard about JNAFAU. Since I come from a lower middle class family, I worked during the nights, as a designer in a newspaper, to pay my bills,” explains Srinath. “Back at the newspaper there were no computers to design pages and so everything was done manually... this was how I had a basic understanding of how the print industry worked,” he says.
“After my bachelors in fine arts I received a National Scholarship from the ministry of HRD and I went to MS University Baroda to complete my MFA,” says Srinath. And it was there that he studied “printmaking, lithography, serigraphy and etching”. This helped him pick up the trade,” he says.
