Religion census data irks Muslim panel
Nagore: President of the Nagore Dargah advisory committee Syed Mohamed Kalifa Sahib took strong exception over the religion-wise data from the India census 2011 released by the Central government recently, and termed the mention in the census that “the Muslim population is on a rising trend as pure conspiracy”.
In a release here on Saturday, Sahib accused the Union Government of trying to divert the people’s attention from soaring hike in the prices of the essential commodities, especially the latest onion price, and other vital issues like fall in the share market etc.
He said since the small family concept was growing among the Muslims, there has comparatively been a fall in the Muslim population’s growth rate in the last decade.
The committee head further pointed out that as per the census figures, the country’s Muslim population growth rate that was 29.52 per cent in 2001 has now (2011) decreased to 24.60 percent, which represents a shortfall of 4.92 per cent.
However, for the same period, the Hindus population growth rate that was 19.92 per cent in 2001 had now slipped to 16.76 per cent (2011) with a shortfall of 3.16 per cent. This showed that the gap between the two communities growth rates over the decade has narrowed, he underscored.
Sahib said the real factor from these figures was that the fall in the Muslim population’s growth rate was more than the decline in the growth rate of the population of the Hindus.
He called upon the people of both the communities to forget these baseless data and to work for protecting the Country’s sovereignty.
