Finger print visa info system to be launched

There was no immediate proposal to start a fingerprint centre in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: By the ‘Roll Out region-20’ which has already been initiated by European Countries, in 2004, would be introduced in India, Pakistan and neighbouring countries and the finger prints of visa applicants would be taken by biometric system, Martin Rojek, Consular Attache, visa section, consular general of Germany, Chennai said in an interaction session held during German-Indian Round Table (GIRT).

On security to students going to Germany, in view of attacks in some other Countries, Martin said that 15 per cent of foreign students in Germany helped in creating a good environment and were adjusting themselves to any problem.

Martin said that though there was no immediate proposal to start a fingerprint centre in Coimbatore, efforts would be taken to set up one, once it becomes viable.

The consulate is expecting an increase of 15 per cent, particularly trade and business visas, over the last year’s 18,000, which include 1,300 student visas. Tamil Nadu, with 70 to 75 per cent, topped in issuance of visa, even as the consulate, covered the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Pudhucherry UT, he said.

There are 17 round tables in all the major cities in Germany and in India they have centers in New Delhi, Pune and Coimbatore.

“The purpose of the GIRT centers is to help the local industry to connect with the German Industry for mutual business developments,” said Martin.
