Defence land for Telangana Secretariat soon

The TS government has sought 60 acres of Bison Polo Ground land

Hyderabad: The process for allotment of defence land for the Telangana Secretariat is likely to be completed in a month.

Dr S. Venugopala Chary, Telangana special representative in New Delhi, said defence minister Manohar Parrikar had approved the proposal to hand over land and asked the defence authorities to scout for a suitable land in lieu of Bison Polo grounds in Secunderabad.

“The process is on. The defence minister has okayed the TS government’s request for defence land and allotment of suitable land in lieu, on the city periphery. We expect the process to be completed in a month,” he said.

Asked whether defence authorities had begun the process of scouting for land, he said it is yet to begin.

“Defence officials will have to work in tandem with revenue officials to check out the lands available in and around Hyderabad. The TS government would show some of the available plots of land and the choice is left to the defence authorities. Revenue officials have been asked to select some suitable lands,” he added.

On the reason for the delay in completing the process, he said transferring of 60 acres of defence land in Hyderabad to the state government certainly goes through a lot of processes and takes time.

To another question, he said the TS government has presently sought only Bison Polo Ground which is under the control of defence authorities. “Yes, there was a discussion on shifting of entire defence establishments in the city to another place,” he added.

The TS government has sought 60 acres of Bison Polo Ground land in Secunderabad for the location of the new Secretariat building and plans to construct skyscrapers in the present Secretariat in collaboration with prominent business houses.

Since the defence ministry is yet to hand over the land, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao too is silent on the issue since the matter is still pending.

The CM initially planned to construct the new Secretariat at Government Chest Hospital at Erragadda, but dropped the plan following a hue and cry raised by Opposition and a section of doctors and other medical staff.

The government planned to shift the chest hospital to TB Sanatorium at Vikarabad, 70 km from Hyderabad.
