Davangere: Both State and Union ministers from Davangere are claiming “credit” for the inclusion of Davangere city in the Smart City project. Horticulture and district in-charge Minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa claims that it is the achievement of the Congress government in the State.
Timely tax collection and revenue mobilisation by Davangere City Corporation (DCC) after the Congress came to power in the corporation is the main reason for it. That apart, development projects taken up by the State Government in the past two years in the city added to the advantage.
However, Davangere MP and Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwara claims that the development projects taken up by the BJP during its rule in the DCC Council and in the State played a pivotal role in the city getting selected for the Smart City project.
“I tried my best to include Davangere in the list of cities short-listed across the country for the Smart City project. It is, moreover, NDA government’s project. How can the Congress take credit for Davangere’s inclusion in the project?” he said.
Mr. Shivashankarappa is the father-in-law of Mr. Siddeshwara. People of Davangere say that it is time for Mr. Shivashankarappa and Mr. Siddeshwara to forget their party affiliations and strive for the development of the city.
