Bad debts drive family to suicide in Tirupur

The Tirupur central police have filed a complaint and are investigating

TIRUPUR: A family of three including a four-year-old male child was found dead in a locked house in Tirupur late on Friday midnight. C. Ramesh (36), residing in a rented house with his wife Jayanthi (30) and son Pranav (4) in K.V. R. nagar here, was in the finance business, lending money for interest against documents.

Police sources told DC that Ramesh, however, for a long time has neither been getting back his principal amounts nor the interest. The outstanding amount would be around Rs 1.5 crore, they said.

Ramesh, meanwhile, who had borrowed Rs 20 lakh from another party for business rotation, was unable to return the sum even after many months as his business went into loss. The lender often came to Ramesh’s house and verbally abused him, the sources said.

On Friday, the house owner kannan found Ramesh’s house door locked throughout the day. Around 10 pm, with no response to some banging the door, neighbours broke open and entered the house only to find that the entire family had ended their lives.

While Ramesh’s wife is believed to have consumed poison and hanged herself, the couple is suspected to have killed their son by hanging him from the roof before hanging themselves, sources said.

The Tirupur central police have filed a complaint and are investigating.
