‘Fancy’ some water?

Here is some of the world’s most expensive packaged drinking water that’ll leave you thirsty... or counting the pennies!

We all know water, as a commodity, is precious. But ever pegged it for a luxury item? Purified, sparkling, directly from the spring or with added flavours, there’s such a thing as the most expensive and exotic drinking water. A sip of this ultra luxurious H2O is sure to surprise you (and your pocket)!

Bling h2o - You know it’s priced through the roof if it was developed by Hollywood producer Kevin Boyd. Embellished with Swarovski crystals and corked like a bottle of champagne for $40, the focus of this packaged drinking water isn’t on its “cleanest” water from Tennessee springs, but on the nature of their limited edition bottles.

Acqua di Cristallo “Tributo a Modigliani” - Touted as the most expensive bottled water in the world, this stands at a whopping $60,000 for 750 ml! The water laced with five milligrams of gold dust is sourced from France or Fiji but that’s not it. It comes in a solid, 24 karat gold bottle designed by Fernando Altamirano of Tequila Ley fame, the makers of one of the most expensive spirits in the world! Can’t afford it? Don’t fret. They also have versions of gold matte, silver, silver matte and crystal for as “less” as $3,600 a piece.

Beverly Hills 9OH2O - When the world’s foremost water sommelier Martin Riese crafts a bottle of drinking water that’s especially palatable with fine foods and wine, it would of course be ranked as “the best tasting water in the world.” Priced at $100,000, this elixir shines in a brilliant diamond-like glass bottle, is hand-finished and triple-sealed to ensure exceptional purity. To turn up the fancy a notch, it also comes in a briefcase and has a bottle cap decked out with 14 carats of diamonds and white gold, each with its own piece of custom art.

Mahalo Deep Sea Water - Unlike most people paying for the bottle and not the water, this particular variety gets its USP from bottling "rare deep sea water" that was originally a freshwater iceberg that melted thousands of years ago! Pumped from 3,000ft below the Pacific Ocean, the water is said to be completely free from pollutants and costs $33.5 a pop!

Kona Nigari - Marketed as something that would help lose weight, improve skin tone and reduce stress, this Japanese water costs $402 for 750 ml. The desalinated sea-water is said to be collected from a plunging 2,000 feet below the surface of the ocean off the Big Island of Hawaii. Want just an ounce to see what tastes different? That’ll be a $33.50, please.

Fillico - Bottled in Osaka, this is yet another bottle of Japanese water that seals a spot on the most expensive bottle of water. Costing $219 (23,000 Yen), these bottles made of frosted glass are crafted in the shape of chess pieces, capped with gold King and Queen crowns, encrusted in diamonds and finished with Swarovski crystal accents. With a limited production of 5,000 bottles a month, this hasn’t even hit the US markets yet. As for the water, it comes from the Nunobiki spring in Kobe, Japan and is also available in the ‘Hello Kitty’ variety for those who like their water “cute.”
