Axar picked four wickets in the six maiden overs
Wayanad: India ‘A’ crushed South Africa ‘A’ by an innings and 81 runs in the second unofficial Test match at Krishnagiri Stadium here on Friday to clinch the series 1-0. Axar Patel played a pivotal role in India’s win within two hours of play on the fourth day as the visitors were dismissed for 76.
Chasing 158 runs, South Africa saw only Quinton de Kock and Stiaan Van Zyl reach two-digit scores in a dramatic collapse. Axar picked four wickets in the six maiden overs he bowled to destroy the Proteas.
India ‘A’ declared at their overnight score of 417 for eight. Captain Ambati Rayudu’s decision to introduce Axar, who had bagged five wickets in the first innings, in the fourth over reaped early benefits for India ‘A’. The left-arm spinner castled opener Reeza Hendricks. One down Gihahn Cloete nicked Shardul Patel to wicketkeeper AK Bains.
Brief scores
South Africa ‘A’ 260 & 76 in 31.4 overs (Q. de Kock 20, Yadav 2/10, Patel 4/6) lost to India ‘A’ 417/8 declared.
