Boy caned by tuition teacher dies in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: Enturi Chintu, who was beaten up by his teacher on August 10, succumbed to his injuries at the Guntur Government Hospital on Friday.
Chintu was a Class VIII student of the Zilla Parishad High School in Godavarru village of Kankipadu mandal in Krishna district. His tuition teacher beat him with a stick on his shoulders and neck for not completing his homework.
Chintu’s legs, hands lost all sensation
On the day he was beaten, Chintu who seemed all right till the evening, but complained of severe pain in the spine and legs in the evening.
His parents took him to a local doctor and later lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, he was shifted to various hospitals, including in Hyderabad, and was finally brought to the GGH on August 21.
Chintu’s legs and hands had lost all sensation and he had lost his ability to speak. The accused teacher was arrested by Kankipadu police. He was also suspended from the school.
“We thought he was getting better since the past two days. Doctors at the GGH were treating him well. We will take up protests against the teacher who beat our child to death on Saturday,” said Chintu's uncle, Enturi Elaiah.
The boy’s father E. Ramaiah is a daily wage labourer and a resident of Church Bazaar, in Godavarru.
