Tumakuru Road accident: Injured mother of nine-year-old also dies
Bengaluru: Mother of the nine-year-old boy, who died in a road accident last Sunday, too died of her injuries early on Friday at Columbia Asia Hospital in Yeshwanthpur.
The woman, identified as Sunitha Kumar (29), had suffered critical head and internal injuries in the road accident in which her son Likith Gowda had died after coming under the wheels of a bus.
Sunitha, who was riding a scooter, swerved right to avoid a big pothole at SRS Junction on Tumakuru Road, but came in front of the bus. Sunitha attended her son’s funeral and only then got admitted to the hospital, the police said. On the day of the accident, Sunitha was going to her brother’s house in Hesaraghatta for a puja.
Sunitha, a housewife and a resident of Gayatrinagar, was married to Kumar, who is a supervisor at a factory in Peenya, the police said.
Engineer held for not maintaining highway
The Yeshwanthpur traffic police, who had questioned the National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) on the bad condition of the highway, got a reply that Navayuga Engineering Company had been given a 20-year contract to maintain the road. The traffic police booked the civil engineer, identified as Shailesh working for Navayuga, for negligence and arrested him.
The bus driver, Thimmaraju, has been named Accused No. 1 in the FIR, while the engineer is the second accused, the police said. The pothole on the highway has since been filled up.
