Hyderabad: Pointing to deep flaws in the criteria to select Smart Cities, the Telangana government on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel the allocations till the overall distribution formula was revised.
It urged Mr Modi to revoke the statutory town criteria in the distribution formula of the Smart City Mission. “Telangana on this basis should get at least four Smart Cities as against the two (Hyderabad and Warangal) now,” B. Vinod Kumar, TRS deputy floor leader in the Lok Sabha, wrote in a detailed letter to the Prime Minister.
He informed the Prime Minister that he had written a letter to Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu highlighting the crucial flaw in the Smart City Mission which could put the entire effort into jeopardy.
“I had elaborately stated my case to him but no action was taken and yesterday the list of Smart Cities was released. I am thus writing to you with an appeal to take action and remove the criteria of statutory towns from the distribution formula for Smart Cities. This will allow for a more just distribution of Smart Cities to states and will greatly strengthen the performance of the Smart Cities Mission,” he said. He also cited similar irregularities in AMRUT scheme.
