Rat bite case: Top doctors at Guntur Government Hospital transferred
Guntur: The state government on Friday transferred Guntur Government Hospital superintendent Dr T. Venugopala Rao and paediatric surgeon Dr Ch. Bhaskar Rao following the rat bite death of an infant on Wednesday, even as an-other 50 rats were caught in the hospital premises. Health minister Dr K. Srinivas, who announced the transfers of the senior doctors, also said that he-ad nurse Vijaya Nirmala and staff nurse Vijayalak-shmi had been suspended.
The action had its impact and doctors and staff at the hospital were seen keeping themselves busy. Meanwhile, Lokayukta deputy director Raj Kum-ar started his inquiry into the death of the infant.
A special sanitation drive with 100 workers of the Guntur Municipal Corporation started in the hospital wards, improving hygiene at the hospital. As many as 100 GMC staff cleaned all wards with acid and phenol, sprinkled bleach on the premises and closed all holes in the ceiling. Patients N. Govindu and P. Venkamma at the paediatric ward said that the GGH was now looking as clean as a corporate hospital and hoped that this would continue.
Guntur MP Galla Jayadev and collector Kantilal Dande, who ins-pected the hospital, held a review meeting with GGH doctors and staff. They said all basic amenities would be improved at the hospital in five days.
