Doctor checked stocks on cell before death in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Minutes before his death, ENT surgeon Dr Raghavendra Rao was checking the stock market movements as he had huge investments in some firms. Investigation officials, who analysed his phone record, say that he parked his car on the street in Old Bowenpally in order to check the status of his stocks on Wednesday.
The Sensex had slumped by about 320 points on Wednesday, following Monday’s wipe out of over 1,600 points. The police is probing if loss in stocks triggered a heart attack. Police is also investigating if he had committed suicide.
“After analysing his phone, we found in the browser history that he was searching the stock market details. Thousands of stocks had dipped drastically on the day the doctor died. We have now sought the details of his investment in stocks from his family. We need to verify if the fluctuation in the market had caused him a loss, which triggered a heart stroke,” said North Zone DCP N. Prakash Reddy.
Police said the place in Harshavardhan Colony at Old Bowenpally, where he parked his car was just 200 metres away from the main road. “He must have been passing by the area, and parked his car on the roadside to browse the phone or any other activity,” said an investigation official.
The investigation officials are yet to get any evidence leading to murder. However, the empty liquor bottle and his sudden decision not to go to the hospital are still a mystery.
“He had a habit of drinking, and we are not sure if he was drinking and driving. But there was an empty bottle of liquor in the car,” said Mr Reddy.
Dr Rao, 62, who was head of the department at Kims, had left his home on Tuesday at 9.30 am to go to the hospital but never reached there.
