Doing two jobs under different names
Fearing arrest after complaint against him, employee seeks bail
Chennai: Every morning, R. Murthy (42) of New Washermenpet here, would go to Stanley Medical College Hospital and sign in. A couple of hours later, he would be at the secretariat and sign in for work as P. Ramesh.
He drew salary from both offices. But for the last couple of months, he had not gone for work. Reason: an under secretary investigated his act and approached the Fort. St.George police. A case was registered and a manhunt launched.
Fearing arrest, he has now approached the principal sessions court here for anticipatory bail. In a complaint dated June 12, 2014, city public prosecutor M.L. Jegan said S. Sumathy, an under secretary in the rural development and panchayat raj department, had submitted that Ramesh was recruited as an office assistant in the department on April 16, 2012.
However, A. Kathirvel, president of the staff union at Stanley Medical College Hospital, sent a petition stating that Ramesh was working in the name of R. Murthy as a sweeper in the hospital since June 2007. He had secured both jobs through employment exchange. He had allegedly altered his date of birth.
Based on Kathirvel’s petition, Panchayat raj department conducted investigation and placed him under suspension on June 10, 2013. Later, departmental proceedings were initiated. The department had also found he had secured the job with the help of one Thanikachalam, who had got employment for several persons in government departments using fake certificates.
In June 2014, Sumathy sent a complaint to the Inspector, Fort George Police station, to initiate action against him. No action was taken.
After officials intervened, police registered a case against him on August 26, 2015. When the matter came up on Friday, the principal sessions judge adjourned it to August 31.
