Neon noodles - Japan’s latest bizarre food trend
Ever thought of trying out fluorescent food? Don’t know what we are talking about? Another weird food trend has raised its head in Japan, the land of black burgers, and this time it is neon udon noodles.
Food writer and self-proclaimed ‘bad scientist’, Kurare Raku created this unique dish – neon pink noodles, neon green broth, topped with two slabs of blue tofu – and posted the pictures on his Twitter account recently.
Popular guesses are that making the dish involved colouring the noodles with a special dye, and then shining ultraviolet light onto them to produce a special effect.
Raku’s cool dish has also been given the star billing for the Unbelievable Science festival that will take place on August 30 where curious buyers will finally be able to try it out, according to the Mirror.
