CHENNAI: PMK founder S. Ramadoss has raised objection to a CBSE circular asking all its schools to celebrate Sanskrit Week from August 26 to September 1.
In a statement here on Thursday, he said the CBSE had on August 25 released a circular to all schools ordering them to celebrate Sanskrit week from the next day. He said his party condemned the communication.
“Last year, CBSE launched the Sanskrit Week and we (PMK) objected to it. Anticipating protests, this year the Centre released the circular just a day before the celebrations started (August 26). This should have been avoided as it goes against the principles of transparent governance,” he said.
Pointing out that Sanskrit originated from Tamil, Ramadoss said the CBSE’s circular, on the contrary, said that if one had to understand the growth of Indian civilisation and culture, one should get familiarised with Sanskrit.
“The BJP led-Union government has been imposing Sanskrit on Tamil Nadu through different methods,” he said.
