Kochi to submit report in 3 months
KOCHI: The Cochin corporation will submit a study report on the projects needed for the development of Kochi as a Smartcity as per the policy of the Union government. The report would be submitted in three months, mayor Tonny Chammany said on Thursday.
Expressing happiness over Kochi being selected for the Smartcity project, the mayor said that the high power committee headed by the chief secretary had selected ICRA as the consultant to undertake the study.
The thrust areas under the Smartcity project would be infrastructure development, sanitation and modernisation of the city.
Kochi was among the 98 cities selected for development as a Smartcity in the country. The names of the selected cities were announced by Urban affairs minister Venkaiah Nadu in Delhi on Thursday. Kochi is the only city from Kerala included in the project.
The central government has set aside Rs 49,000 cr for the development of cities selected under the Smartcity project.
Kochi had succeeded in finding a find a place in the list as a result of the hard work of a large section of people, said mayor Chammany.
He also sought the cooperation of all sections of people in Kochi for the successful implementation of the project.
