Karnataka: IPS officers allege government bias

IPS officers took exception to the state govt’s failure to initiate any disciplinary action against IAS officer Kapil Mohan

Bengaluru: A good number of IPS officers from Karnataka state cadre are reportedly unhappy about the state government’s ‘double standards’ while taking disciplinary action against IPS officials, when compared with IAS officers. In a privately organised party at a farm house in Nelamangala on Tuesday, some IPS officers discussed the government’s stand on stern disciplinary action against IPS officers, while being soft on erring IAS officers.

The officers showed rare bonhomie, sinking their caste and regional differences. Police sources claimed the private party was organised by few IPS officers, including Alok Kumar, who was suspended on May 24 over his alleged involvement in the lottery scam.

Sources claimed the partying IPS officers unanimously took exception to the state government’s failure to initiate any disciplinary action against IAS officer Kapil Mohan. His house was raided on August 5 by the CID sleuths and nearly Rs 4.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg gold, and nearly 35 carat diamonds, along with property documents, and other gadgets including laptops and pen drives were seized.

“While an IPS officer got suspended for alleged links with a lottery scamster, an IAS officer, who was caught in a raid with prima-facie evidence, is being allowed to go scot-free. Is this not double standards?” a source said quoting one of the IPS officers at the party.

However, sources also said that the news of this private party reached the ears of Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee, who is contemplating on taking a stand on the fate of Kapil Mohan, after discussing the matter with CM Siddaramaiah.
