Gender ratio of Andhra Pradesh better than in Telangana

Muslims’ gender ratio is better than that of Hindus
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh has a higher gender ratio than Telangana as per the 2011 Census.
Interestingly, there are also wide differences in the gender ratios of different religious communities of the two states.
Among the major communities, Telangana Muslims have the lowest gender ratio at 968 while their Andhra Pradesh counterparts are considerably better placed at 984. Hindus, on the other hand, have a sex ratio of 989 in TS and 995 in AP.
Interestingly, Christians seem to the ideal role models for other religious communities. But even among them, AP Christians have a high sex ratio of 1076 while their TS counterparts are also well off with a gender ratio of 1033.
But the wide difference among the communities in the two states are noticeable.
However, in some northern districts of TS like Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Kham-mam, Hindus’ gender ratio is in favour of women though the overall state average tends to fall considerably. The same is true for even north Andhra districts till East Godavari.
Districts like East and West Godavari and Guntur also have a gender ratio among Muslims that is in favour of women. In fact, at the national level, Muslims’ gender ratio is better than that of Hindus.
“Muslim families don’t have a preference for male children and Islam as such prohibits any such thing. Parents who raise three girl children will be closest to God on Judgment Day,” Mr Asifuddin Muhammed, president, Islamic Academy for Comparative Religion, said.
