BJP to adopt zero tolerance to corruption in BBMP
Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary in charge for Karnataka, Muralidhar Rao on Thursday maintained that the party would adopt zero tolerance for corruption when the party retakes the reins of BBMP, while warning that their next goal was to dislodge the “dysfunctional and corrupt” Congress government in the state.
However, when his attention was drawn to rampant corruption in BBMP that was run by the BJP for the last five years, he said: “We will not allow corruption in the BBMP administration.” At this point, he was told that the talk of the town was that the mayor’s post was up for grabs and any one who was ready to pay Rs 2 crore would get the post.
It was also pointed out that given that the name of a corporator who was facing lake encroachment charges was doing the rounds, then, how could BJP give good governance if this was the situation on the ground?
A cautious Rao replied, “Now that you are drawing my attention to these aspects, I will take note of it. You are not my adversary, I will take your point of view as suggestions ensure that we elect clean candidates,” he said.
“We will hold training sessions for our elected corporators. People reposed confidence in us for the second time. We know the responsibility. We have to be very responsive. We will bring in transparency and accountability in BBMP,” Mr Rao said, adding “when I said transparency, it involves strategy against corruption.”
“The Congress and JD(S) are disrespecting the voters and Bengalureans by saying that corrupt were elected again. They should respect the democratic process,” Mr Rao also said.
