Thiruvananthapuram: The last rank allotted in all-India quota in the government medical colleges in the state after the first round this year is higher than in 2014.
This is probably due to the delay in publishing the results of the all-India pre-medical entrance examinations. As many as 15 percent seats are earmarked for MBBS course in government medical colleges in the all- India quota.
The AIPMT- based allotments got delayed due to the re-test in July following the leakage of answer sheets.
Usually, the admissions to all-India quota start ahead of the state allotments. This year, all-India quota allotments commenced only on August 19 after two rounds of allotments for the state quota.
Candidates with higher ranks in AIPMT and in the state medical entrance may have opted for state seat allotment due to the delay in all-India allotment.
In 2014, the last ranks in the five government medical colleges from the state in the first round of allotment in the all- India quota (unreserved) were as follows: Kozhikode 411, Thiruvananthapuram 501, Kottayam 663 , Thrissur 740 and Alappuzha 777, sources said.
However, as per the first round in this year’s allotment, the last allotted ranks in unreserved category in these colleges are: Kozhikode 1,151, Thiruvananthapuram 1,077, Kottayam 1,333, Thrissur 1,368 and Alappuzha 1702, sources said.
In 2014, in the all-India quota, even after the third and final round of allotment, the last ranks under unreserved category in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kottayam and Thrissur were 665, 757, 887 and 1,288 respectively.
The other four government medical colleges of Kerala were included only in the third round of allotments in 2014.
The last ranks allotted under unreserved quota in these four colleges in 2014 were: Ernakulam 2,101, Malappuram 2,565, Palakkad 2,664 and Idukki 2, 801.
These colleges have been included in the first round of allotment this year. The last rank details of these colleges after the first round are as follows: Ernakulam 1,913, Malappuram 2,276, Palakkad 3,126, Idukki 2,921.
