ERODE: A 45-year-old man who killed his own sister-in-law, a hearing and speech impaired, has been convicted and sentenced to life term by the Erode mahila court.

The mahila court Judge, N. Thirunavukkarasu awarded life sentence to R. Anandraj, who had hit his sister-in-law, A. Sumathi, with a stone and killed her on June 21, 2014.

According to the prosecution, the accused Anandraj had an illicit affair with his wife’s sister Sumathi, who had separated from her husband and was engaged in washing clothes at Karungalpalayam.

Sumathi had earlier had an affair with a washer-man, Nagarajan. But Anandraj objected to it and forced Sumathi into an affair with him.

However, as Sumathi frequently asked Anandraj to marry her, the accused took her to a desolate place and badgered her with a stone and murdered her.

The Judge said that the role of Anandraj in the murder had been proved beyond doubt and awarded him life sentence. Besides, the Judge imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
