Abhinav Mukund, Ambati Rayudu among runs
Abhinav continued his fine form in the series with a decisive knock of 72 off 136 balls
Wayanad: The decision to rest left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and include three pacers backfired for South Africa ‘A’ as their lone spinner Dane Piedt found it hard to single-handedly contain India ‘A’ batsmen on a spin-friendly wicket. The hosts grabbed the advantage and batted resolutely to take a lead of 82 at stumps on second day and were sitting pretty at 342 for six in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 260 in the second unofficial test match at Krishnagiri Stadium here on Wednesday.
Abhinav Mukund continued his fine form in the series with a decisive knock of 72 off 136 balls. His opening partnership of 96 runs along with Jiwanjot Singh (52) gave a good start for the hosts.
Rayudu came up with a captain’s innings as he partnered Sheldon Jackson, AK Bains and Vijay Shankar to score swift runs and take the lead. A combined effort by Van Zyl and Temba Bavuma at long-on saw Rayudu departing in Piedt’s bowling. Rayudu’s innings consisted of eight boundaries and three sixes. AK Bains and Axar Patel further helped extend the lead with determined knocks to end the day in favour of the hosts.
