For rakhi, bankers promote Centre’s insurance scheme

The bankers are carrying out a promotional campaign by holding meetings
Rajahmundry: Bankers are advising the people to ‘gift a cheque’ to a person of their choice to support one of the several insurance policies launched by the Centre recently on the eve of ensuing Raksha Bandhan festival in Godavari districts.
The Union minister for human resource development Smriti Irani during her recent visit to Tadepalligudem in West Godavari called upon the people to gift a cheque paying the annual premium of a policy to their loved ones or anyone of their choice to help them get insurance coverage for accident or for life.
Taking a cue from her call and the direction from state government, the bankers are carrying out a promotional campaign by holding meetings to bring about awareness among the people on the details of various policies and advising them to support policies in the name of their family members, friends and others.
Under the life insurance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana, a person to be insured should be in the age group between 18 years and 50 years and an irreversible annual premium worth Rs 330 has to be paid to a banker. The person should have a savings bank account and if not, it has to be opened in any bank. In case of death of the insured, his or her nominee will get Rs 2 lakhs.
Under accidental insurance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, a person to be insured should be in the age group between 18 years and 70 years and an annual premium worth Rs 12 has to be paid. The policy covers accidental death or disability for a claim worth Rs 2 lakhs.
There is another scheme called Suraksha Deposit Scheme (Rs 201). Under it, premium worth Rs 201 has to be paid to any banker and the insured person will be eligible to get accidental insurance coverage for life.
