Protest: No water, no tax, says Hyderabad residents

They said more water should be sanctioned to the west side of the city

Hyderabad: About 50,000 residents of Aparna, Gauthami Enclave and Prime- gates communities at Kondapur took part in a “no water-no property tax” protest on Wednesday.

All the seized tankers were released on Tuesday night following political intervention. Citizens say seizing tankers is a temporary solution. They said areas surrounding Hitec City received 2,000 litres of tap water every third day while the consumption of every house was 500 litres per day. They said more water should be sanctioned to the west side of the city.

The groundwater level in 2014 in most city pockets, is negative. There is no additional water for the growing population.

N. Subramanyam, a resident of Gauthami Enclave, Kondapur, said, “All resident welfare associations have decided not to pay property tax if the corporation does not increase the supply or make it on every alternative day.”

Madhumathi Raju, resident of Jayadarsini Residency, Kondapur, added, “There is a major water crisis in Whitefields, Kondapur. There has been no manjeera water supply since one week. Anjaiahnagar in the neighbourhood gets uninterrupted Manjeera water.”
