LED bulbs to light up all villages in state: Devineni Umamaheswara Rao

In all, 17.7 lakh LED bulbs will be distributed in all 2,200 villages
Vijayawada: The second phase of free LED distribution to all the householders in five districts, which was initiated to save power consumption in the state, has kick started on Wednesday at Challapalle mandal with all SECM members and state ministers in attendance. The distribution starts from September 9 in a full length in all the municipalities and villages.
Andhra Pradesh Power Regulatory Commission chairman, Grandhi Bhavani Prasad, who launched the distribution programme along with state ministers, said the government has taken the initiatve to conserve the natural energy resources and also claimed that all households can save 80 per cent of power with LED bulbs when compared to normal bulbs.
“The state government has made all arrangements to use natural energy sources like solar power and wind energy in the coming days to increase the energy production in the state keeping in mind about the capital requirements,” said Mr Bhavani Prasad.
In all, 17.7 lakh LED bulbs will be distributed in all 2,200 villages in the district and a decrease in power utilisation from 106 mega watts to 16 mega watts, which will be a saving of 80 per cent in consumption and in power bill.
Speaking on the distribution, irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao admitted that all the municipalities and panchayats in the Krishna district along with four more districts will get streetlights installed with LED bulbs.
Minister Kollu Ravindra, health minister Kamineni Srinivas, Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad and Zilla Parishad chairperson Gadde Anuradha were also present in the inaugural event.
