Kerala civic polls likely on November 24/26
Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF government is likely to hold the civic polls on a single day between November 24 and 26. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has reportedly got an assurance from state election commissioner K. Sasidharan Nair that he would not oppose the government’s affidavit in the High Court on September 3 in this regard.
But he told DC that dates were ‘trivial’ and the High Court decision was going to be crucial. At the UDF meeting held at Kovalam on Tuesday, Mr Chandy apprised the leaders of the schedule he prepared for submitting before the High Court.
As per his schedule, the single-phase elections will be held in the newly formed corporations as well as 28 new municipalities that would enable new bodies to assume power on December 1. Mr Nair told Deccan Chronicle that what he would be doing now is to prepare the election schedule.
