Thiruvananthapuram: This Onam, the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has come up with a wide variety of Payasams to tickle the taste buds of payasam lovers. The payasam counter at Chaithram Hotel is witnessing a heavy rush from the morning till late in the night.
A new range of payasam varieties made of vegetables, fruits and dates are the main attractions at the mela which is being organised every year by KTDC. Payasams made with pineapple, dates, bananas, carrot, bamboo rice are the main attractions being showcased by KTDC.
KTDC Food and Beverages Manager Vijayan K said that the fair was a big hit. “The response we are getting is huge. We are getting bulk orders from educational institutions and offices. We have recipes of around 20 varieties of payasams over the years and this year we have picked the best 15 along with our new date payasam. Trivandrumites are fonder of ‘Kadala’ and ‘Ada’. Carrot payasam is also very popular,” said Mr Vijayan.
He said that KTDC was expecting business worth '15 lakh this year. “In the initial days we did Rs 1.5 lakh worth of business and today we are expecting Rs 2.5 lakh worth of business,” he added.
