Bhavanipuram police seizes gutkha worth Rs 50 lakh
The final worth of the stock is yet to be confirmed
Vijayawada: Bhavanipuram police on Wednesday seized gutkha packets stuffed in two lorries. Acting on a tip-off that a lorry with number AP 16 TW 5569 is with a load of gutkha and other such products, police raided the iron yard area and found the lorry and also other lorry stuffed with hundreds of gunny bags full of gutkha packets, according to Bhavanipuram police. According to the RTA, the lorry is registered in the name of Krishnaveni Royyuru in Vijayawada RTA office.
Following instructions of inspector I. Gopala Krishna, SI Salam and his team raided the lorries.
Police informed the local food inspector who confirmed the stock as prohibited gutkha. It is estimated that the seized stock is worth around Rs 50 lakh.
It may be noted that six months ago police seized gutkha worth over Rs 3 crore from a transport company in the city. While it became difficult for traders to transport gutkha, they chose to hide the stock in lorries and park them on roadsides so that police do not have benefir of doubt.
The final worth of the stock is yet to be confirmed.
