Twitter trend #JunkOff has biologists sharing animal genitalia photos
A new hashtag called #JunkOff has been trending on Twitter this week. Yup, you read it right. Biologists on the micro-blogging website are posting animal genitalia photos in an attempt to show the diversity of the animal kingdom in a different way and also because biologists love “junk”.
It all started when grad student Chris Rowe and research supervisor Marcella Kelly began posting animal genitalia photos to the Wildlife Habitat and Population Analysis Lab (WHAPA) Twitter account, Gizmoda reports.
However it was only when Rowe’s labmate Anne Hilborn discovered that one of their readers called it a “junk-off” that the hashtag was born and the challenge to find the best animal genitalia photo officially declared.
#JunkOff also had botanists showing up on Twitter to explain how plants and fungi too have their own version of genital organs
