Australian bar criticized for using naked women as fruit trays at relaunch party

Feminists were left outraged after an upmarket Sydney bar hired women to lie naked on tables with food on their bodies during a major event. The models were even made to hand feed guests.

The incident happened at the Cruise Bar, a well-known venue at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney’s Circular Quay, when it was hosting its relaunch party on Wednesday night.

Activist Felicity Wright expressed her displeasure when she saw women only in skin-coloured underwear being used to promote the venue. “Using a naked woman's body as a business promotion in this context is inappropriate and out-dated. Men used prostitutes’ bodies as dining tables in this manner in brothels,” Wright said according to the Daily Mail. She also pointed out that no males were nude on the tables with strategically placed fruit.

Pictures of the naked women feeding food into guests’ mouths also caused uproar on social media.
