BBMP polls: Siddaramaiah owns full responsibility for losing the elections
Bengaluru: Disappointed over the drubbing the Congress received in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike elections, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he owned the moral responsibility for losing the elections, but was quick to add that the civic body election results were not referendum on his government.
Speaking to reporters at his home office, Krishna, he said, “Yes, we did not win seats as we projected. Though we never made tall claims, it was me who had been stating that the party would get a simple majority. Unfortunately, we failed to achieve it, and I own the moral responsibility for this defeat. Not only this, we have been in power for more than two years and it becomes necessary for me to own up.”
He claimed that he made all efforts to explain what the state government had done for Bengalureans. “Be it vision document or manifesto, we spelt out clearly our stand on Bengaluru, and what we can do for the city. But the voters have chosen re-elect BJP, despite that party’s five-year misrule,” he said.
Asked how the Congress got it all wrong, he said, “Not just me or my party, even the media too got it wrong and they went on telecasting the exit poll surveys for the next two days. Sometimes, no one can read people’s mind. This is one such example.”
