‘Clean Kozhikode’ phase 1 to end soon
KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s ‘Clean Kozhikode’ project will complete its first phase soon with over 50 wards successfully conducting waste collection and disposal drive. The second phase will cover the rest of the wards by next month.
“The first phase is a huge success as we could remove waste heaps located in different parts of the city. In around 45 wards, we have removed wastes from the compounds of houses.
By the end of this month, the rest of the waste heaps will be removed from various wards,” said health standing committee chairperson Janamma Kunjunni.
The project is being implemented with the cooperation of Niravu Vengeri and other voluntary organisations. “During the second phase, apart from expanding the waste collection from other wards which are lagging behind, schools will also be included in the project. We will emphasise on waste disposal by the residents,” said committee member and Thoppayil councillor T. Sujan.
The corporation’s ambitious project, launched in November last year, would be implemented in four phases. Committees have been constituted at various levels with help from the residents' associations/Kudumbashree units. A monitoring committee with the mayor as chairperson and corporation secretary as convener is supervising the campaign activities.
