GoI would organize the World Coconut Day in Vijayawada on September 2

Vijayawada: The Coconut Development Board, a statutory body established under the Ministry of Agriculture, GoI would organize the World Coconut Day in Vijayawada on September 2. According to a release by the board, September 2 has been designated Coconut Day by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) headquartered at Jakarta, Indonesia whose foundation day also falls on September 2.
To mark the day, celebrations would be organised in city and it is aimed at creating awareness about the importance of coconut and its potential in alleviating poverty and encourage investments in the industry.
The event will be on the theme ‘Coconut for Family Nutrition, Health & Wellness’ and would be organised at Swarna Vedika on MG Road where over 500 farmers from across country will attend.
APCC is an inter-governmental organisation of 18 member countries mandated to promote, coordinate and harmonise coconut developmental activities in Asia-Pacific region. The event also includes an exhibition of latest technologies in coconut industry. Four coconut producer’s companies from Kerala would be showcasing their products at the exhibition.
Andhra Pradesh occupies first position in coconut productivity (14997 nuts /ha) and the fourth positions both in area (1,21,920 ha) and production (1828.46 million nuts) among the major coconut growing southern states in India. Officials from state agriculture department, CDB and others would take part.
