Kochi: The crime investigation department (CID), Thirupathi, has informed the Kerala Police that Swamy Raghavendra Thirtha has misappropriated Rs 69.49 lakh of Kashi Math, Tirumala branch, in collusion with his associates and cheated the Math Samsthan.

The report says that the cheating occurred during March 21, 2013, and February 19, 2014. The CID, Hyderabad, registered a case on October 8, 2014, after K. Narayana Shenoy, joint secretary of Tirumala Sri Kashi Math filed a complaint.

The police said Raghavendra Thirtha, the first accused who is absconding, with the assistance of his followers, purchased so many properties in Kerala and some other places using the money diverted from Tirumala Kasi Math and collected Kanikas posing as Madathipathi of Kashi Math Samsthan.

He also violated the norms of the Math Samsthan and spoiled its sanctity. The police will file a report before the High Court on an anticipatory bail plea of Nanda Kumara Prabhu, the tenth accused, in the misappropriation case.

The court will consider the case on Monday when the court reopens after the Onam vacation.
