Naga groups hopeful about Centre-NSCN (IM) agreement

NSCN (IM) affirmed to continue to work with the Union government for Naga people

Kohima: Various Naga groups have expressed hope that the recently signed agreement between the Centre and NSCN (IM) will lead to an acceptable settlement of the vexed Naga issue. At the 8th Naga People's Consultative Meeting with the collective leadership of the Isak-Muivah-led NSCN, the participants hoped that the signing of the 'Framework Agreement' on August 3 will lead to an "acceptable and honourable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue."

The meeting, which resolved to uphold the resolutions of the previous Naga People's Consultative Meetings, also underscored to ceaselessly work for "restoring unity" (among the groups) "in the spirit of forgiveness and oneness."

Besides Nagas of Nagaland, hundreds of delegates from Naga-inhabited areas of neighbouring country Myanmar, besides North-Eastern states Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur also attended the meeting.

In a response to the resolution, the NSCN (IM) expressed "sincere gratitude and satisfaction" to all the participating sides.

"We look forward to more of such significant consultation in the days to come.

"At the end, it is because of our concerted effort that together we have taken a historic decision today for the Nagas," an official statement by the organisation said.

The NSCN (IM) also affirmed to continue to work with the Union government in the best interests of the Naga people.
