Mist stations to cool marathoners

The longer misting station will be 20 feet long while the smaller ones will be 12-15 feet in length

Hyderabad: For the first time, misting stations (tunnel like set up) will be placed at KBR Park and Gopanapally for the Hyderabad marathon to cool down runners when they pass through these tents.

The organisers are also setting up sprinklers at certain junctions and ice buckets all along the route for runners. Around 500 traffic and police personnel will be on duty for Sunday’s marathon. Several routes will be closed in the morning of the big day.

Talking about the misting stations, Dr Murali Nannapaneni, director of the marathon, said, “It is similar to a tent, the misting tunnel is equipped with powerful mist machines that will spray water (extremely minute droplets) on runners passing through it (a continues process). The purpose being to cool down the runners.”

The longer misting station will be 20 feet long while the smaller ones will be 12-15 feet in length. The three tunnels will be places at KBR Park, downhill from Mindspace towards Mumbai highway and on the route passing through Gopanapally.

Also, 3,000 volunteers along the route will help the runners with ice towels, ice and sponges.

The 3K and 5K run will take place on August 29 while the 10K, half marathon (21.095 km) and full marathon (42.195 km) will be held on August 30.
