Doordarshan lining up special programmes to mark 1965 Indo-Pak war

The first episode would go on air on August 30

New Delhi: To celebrate the courage and valour of Indian soldiers in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, national broadcaster Doordarshan is lining up several programmes, including a special three-part documentary, for its viewers.

Officials said that Doordarshan has decided to roll out programmes, which would remind the younger generations of the sacrifices and contributions made in the war that was fought under the "leadership of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri".

Apart from the documentary, Doordarshan News is also planning to send its reporters to places that saw some of the fiercest battles of the 1965 war. Many war veterans are being interviewed as well by the channel for its programmes.

The three-part series on the war will be the highlight of the coverage, Doordarshan officials said, adding that the first episode would go on air on August 30.

"The objective of the series is to remind the younger generation about the great contribution by our soldiers under the leadership of former Prime Minister Shastri," Prasar Bharati Chairperson Dr A Surya Prakash told PTI.

The three episodes of the Doordarshan documentary on the 1965 war are of 30 minutes each, officials said, adding that the first episode would be on the 'Saazish' (Conspiracy) on the other side of the border, which led to the war.

The second episode focusses on 'Asal Uttar' (Real Reply), which is about the fitting reply given by Indian forces to the aggression by Pakistan, officials added. The third episode covers the negotiations and is entitled 'Tashkent', the officials added.

Senior consulting editor at DD News, KG Suresh, said that a special team has been constituted by the channel for the production of the documentary and other programmes, all of which would be prepared "in-house".
