Artiste Mohd Akram Feroze held at Pak border
Hyderabad: A theatre artiste and writer, Mohammed Akram Feroze, a native of Telangana, is under custody of the Rajasthan police for allegedly venturing near the Pakistan border.
The 26-year-old is a native of Jagtial, Karim-nagar and was picked by cops from Ramgarh on August 13 and is currently under custody of Jaisalmer police station. Mr Feroze had entered a village near Ramgarh, not knowing that he needed a permit for the same.
Mr Feroze was hitch-hiking along the border as part of his “Theatre at Borders” programme during which he performs at villages near the borders. Mr Feroze’s family says that despite providing all certificates and clearances from the cops of Karimnagar, the Jaisalmer police are delaying the release.
“We were assured every day that it is a small issue and that the Jaisalmer cops are waiting for reports from Telangana. Now the Jaisalmer cops are saying that they are awaiting reports from Jaipur. We are scared because of this delay,” said Mr Feroze’s mother.
A letter from Ramgarh cops to SDM, Jaisalmer (a copy of which is available with DC), states: “Mohammed Akram Feroze was picked on August 13 from Ramgarh for roaming under suspicious conditions and was taken to the police station for inquiry. Laptop, dongle, external hard disk, video camera, camera storage memory which has photos from J&K and other regions of India were recovered from Feroze and an inquiry was initiated.” Akram's family says that despite providing clearances from TS police the Jaisalmer police is delaying his release.
