Around 90 per cent of the residents depend on these illegal tankers

Hyderabad: Raids on private water tanker operators have brought to light the severe water shortage in merged municipalities.

Around 90 per cent of the residents depend on these illegal tankers. Citizens are facing major water problems in Serilingampally as all tankers dealers are on a dharna since the state destroyed all borewells in the vicinity.

There’s no supply of water who took to the streets to protest near Heritage Fresh, Masjid Banda, Kondapur. N. Subramanyam, a member of Hyderabad Parents Association and a resident of Kondapur, said, “For the last three days, MROs are on a seizing spree, all the borewells in Serilingampally, Gachibowli and Hitec City have been razed, so that no dealer can pump water; tankers as well have been seized and a penalty of Rs 12,000 has been imposed on each tanker. Citizens understand that the officials are doing their job but at the same time the corporations should provide us water. The state government, to stop gudumba, has come up with Rs 30 for three pegs, here we are not asking for liquor, but a basic necessity.”
