Parties in attack mode
Opposition parties in Telangana are back in the scheme of things
Hyderabad: Marginalised Opposition parties in Telangana are back in the scheme of things, thanks to some of the policies and programmes of the TRS government. Cheap liquor has given enough ammunition to Congress, BJP, Telugu Desam, Left and other parties besides other organisations along with the ongoing Grama Jyothi programme.
“We are not opposed to Grama Jyothi programme, but there is no infusion of fresh state funds. The scheme is nothing, but pooling of Central funds with a new tagline. The state government is trying to take people for a ride,” Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Congress MP alleged.
Though the Opposition still have a long way to go to cause any electoral damage to TRS government headed by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, some of the CM’s decisions evoked sharp reaction from Opposition.
However, the ensuing Warangal Lok Sabha by polls, MLC local body elections, likely poll in Sanathnagar Assembly and GHMC are keeping the Opposition active. Sulking BJP national executive member Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who floated a new outfit ‘Bachao Telangana Mission’, said he would soon start units in all the districts to take up cudgels against government.
“The Government is adopting erratic policies. We will fight against anti-people policies and also see that the CM does not deviate from the promises he made to people. Thousands of crores worth of projects are announced. From where are they getting funds?” he asked.
After giving Opposition a stick on delay in waiver of loans to farmers, the CM gave enough fodder to them on construction of the new secretariat in the chest hospital at Erragadda, shifting of chest hospital to Vikarabad and dropping the proposal, shifting to Bison polo ground, construction of Telangana Kala Vedika at NTR stadium, proposed demolition of heritage Osmania Hospital building. The government is now facing the music on sale of cheap liquor to check illicit distillation and Grama Jyothi programme.
The launch of Rs 40,000 crore Mission Kakatiya, Rs 35,000 crore Water Grid, several irrigation projects, changes in designs of Pranahita Chevella irrigation project, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project has added to the Opposition onslaught.
The cheap liquor issue has put the ruling TRS leaders in a fix in villages and earned the ire of women folk, forcing Prohibition and Excise Minister T. Padma Rao to clarify the position.
