Onam audio album releases thing of the past, says KS Chithra
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Onam audio album releases have gone out of fashion these days though earlier there were fine light music compositions, said playback singer K.S. Chithra.
Chithra, who is set to release an Onam album on YouTube, attributes this to the rising internet downloads. “Because of downloads, hardly anyone releases Onam albums as there are no takers for CDs or cassettes,” Chithra said on the sidelines of the inauguration of Onam week celebration.
“I advise youngsters not to take up full-time playback singing as a profession. There are too many talented singers trying hard to find a space in the industry,” the popular reality show judge said after humming the famous lines Utrada poonilavu sung by K.J. Yesudas.
Chithra did not agree that music directors sho-uld shun non-state singers but reminded that the local talents should be preferred. “Shreya Ghoshal is an outstanding singer and we can’t say she should not sing in Malayalam. Howe-ver, many of our talented local singers are denied an opportunity,” she added.
Chithra will perform here on Tuesday evening at the ‘Magical Melodies’ which will be the first to be hosted at the renovated Nisagandhi auditorium.
