Inter-ministerial team to visit flood-affected areas of Assam
Guwahati: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh on Tuesday said an inter-ministerial team from the Centre will be visiting Assam within next two days to assess the damages caused by the floods.
The Minister also announced the release of second installment of Rs 207 crore for Assam's State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
"In a day or two, an inter-ministerial team will be visiting the flood-affected areas, mainly lower Assam. They will assess the damages and suggest measures," Singh said.
He said the Centre would assist in every possible way to help the state cope with the situation.
Talking about funds, Singh said, "We are immediately releasing the second instalment of Rs 207 crore to the SDRF. It was supposed to be released during December this year."
He, however, did not clarify on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's allegation that the Centre has not released the full amount announced during last year's floods.
"I have requested the Chief Secretary (of Assam) to prepare a memorandum and send it to us as soon as possible," Singh said.
