Drive to ensure quality food this Onam
KOZHIKODE: As part of the Onam celebrations, Operation Ruchi raids — the drive to clamp down on the adulteration and excessive use of chemicals in food — will be intensified in the district.
It was after the official launch of the statewide Operation Ruchi during the first week of the month the authorities decided to make this year’s Onam safe and healthy.
Food safety department has deployed squads to ensure that eateries and outlets sell food after taking the mandatory license and registration.
The outlets that are caught for violations of hygiene norms or adulteration will be suspended with immediate effect.
Official sources say inspections ahead of Onam celebrations in the city will be jointly conducted by health squads and food safety authorities.
They have also requested for modern technology detecting equipment that can help them trace the presence of insecticides.
Awareness classes across the state were conducted for owners of various food outlets, including large and small scale ones, under the programme.
