Calicut University syndicate accepts DoR’s resignation
KOZHIKODE: A Calicut University syndicate meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Dr M.K. Abdul Khader has decided to accept the resignation of director of research (DoR) Dr Sailas Benjamin.
The meeting also approved the item put forward by syndicate members to censure Dr Benjamin in ‘strongest terms’ for his alleged act of insubordination while preparing the minutes of research Adalat.
The meeting further authorised the VC to take appropriate action as required. Though the agenda item proposed to summon the director, since he has already resigned from the post, the syndicate decided to forgo it.
The accusation raised by the syndicate members against Dr Benjamin is that during the research adalat conducted on July 31 to address the woes of research scholars, the DoR prepared the minutes in which he was ‘unwisely’ finding fault for minor lapses in the decisions approved by the syndicate members.
The syndicate also decided to issue a strong warning against the repetition of such acts as daring to question the authority of the syndicate, VC and PVC.
The syndicate meeting also authorised a three-member committee consisting of Dr C.R. Murukan Babu, P.K. Supran and P.M. Salahudheen to reconsider the disaffiliation of KET College of Teachers Education based on the High Court ruling and to submit report to the University within 15 days.
