THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hundreds of residential structures were knocked down as part of Operation Anantha without even a short notice. But when it comes to the rich and influential, procedures drag on giving the party enough time and space to approach the court for a stay order.
The same has happened in the case of Park Rajadhani, a critical encroachment sta-nding over the decades-old Thekkanamkara canal. The documents produced by the revenue authorities prove that the structure is standing on purampoke land.
A top official of state disaster management authority said that the High Court would have to decide whether to entertain its owner Biju Ramesh’s plea or not. On Friday, the additional district magistrate, who is in charge of the district disaster management, had ordered the demolition of the five-storey beer and wine parlour standing on a seven- cent purampoke land.
“Biju Ramesh didn’t approach any of the higher authorities bef-ore challenging the eviction notices issued by the district disaster management authority. It wouldn’t be that easy to challenge this order and the High Court is likely to question the sanctity of the earlier pleas made by him,” said the official.
The district disaster management authority has given 15 days’ time to demolish the structure.
