Elderly couple murdered in Kancheepuram district
Chilli powder sprayed at crime scene
Chennai: A home alone senior citizen couple living in their farmland in a village near Kalpakkam in Kancheepuram district was murdered and valuables were stolen from their residence. Farm labourers who came to work early morning first saw the woman lying dead in the fields nearby and later rushed to the house to find the man also killed, police said.
R. Ramadoss (79) and R.Unnamalai (71) were residing alone at their house in the middle of their agricultural land at Kadalur village near Kalpakkam. The intruders had tied Ramadoss hands to his back and gagged him before slitting his throat. The woman also met with the same fate, but had been dragged out of the house and found dead in a casuarina grove, near their residence.
Apart from gold jewellery worn by the woman, a few valuables from the house were also stolen. Investigators are estimating the stolen property to be around 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery, police source said.
Koovathur police removed the bodies to the Kancheepuram Government hospital for post-mortem. A special team rushed to the scene and conducted investigation. “The intruders had sprayed chilli powder across the crime scene to distract sniffer dogs,” a police officer said. Further investigation is on.
