Organising like a boss!

To prepare for the event, students from CBIT were selected and a three-day interview was held

The recently concluded fifth edition of CBIT-MUN was a success with delegates coming in all the way from US and Pakistan. But for the organising committee, it meant a lot of sleepless nights and a lot of planning.

For the Model United Nations, which consists of several councils and has delegates representing different countries, the core committee of seven had started preparing in April.

Talking about the event that took place over the weekend, Satwik Raj, the secretary general from the core committee, says, “This year, we had about 800 applicants and 300 delegates were selected to come down for the event.”

To prepare for the event, students from CBIT were selected and a three-day interview was held. “We had several teams to take care of the accommodation, hospitality, finances and a design team. There were about 85 students who were in the whole committee,” he says.

For the MUN, they also had students from Harvard Summer School and National University Singapore, wishing them good luck by holding posters and sending in the photos.

And accommodation needed special attention. Aishwarya Buggana and Rani Poojita, the under secretary-generals who were looking after the allotment of delegates say, “We would sit till 1 am to make sure the registration was done properly. For almost one week we didn’t attend classes. We slept for less than an hour during the days of the event.”

But in the end it was all good. Satwik says, “These events improve our organising skills and also build our patience level. It gives us exposure, you get to know so many people. And by the end, you have friends from across the country.”
